5 Street Meals To Try In Abuja

Abuja is the capital city of Nigeria which is home to major religious sites like the Nigerian National Mosque and the Nigerian National Christian Centre. It is also home to the famous Aso Rock, known to be the seat of power in Nigeria. Here are five favourite meals you should try the next time you are in Abuja.

  • Masa: This yummy healthy delicacy is simply rice cake made with what is referred to as ” Tuwo rice”, yeast and sugar. It can be eaten with syrup, suya, Yajin Karago, Miyan Alayyahu and Miyan Taushe This delicacy can be eaten at any time.

  • Kilishi: This is the Nigerian version of beef jerky and is extremely spicy. It can be taken alone as a snack, or with a cup of ice cold-soaked garri. There is a popular saying that Abuja has the best Kilishi and it is also wise to note, not to eat so much Kilishi at a time, due to the salt used in preserving it. Garki is the best spot to get Kilishi in Abuja.

  • Furah De Nono: This is a mixture of yoghurt produced by the Fulani from cow milk, and Fura, produced from ground semi-cooked smallish balls of millet with or without Sugar. This delicacy contains vitamin B5, vitamin B12, potassium, phosphorus, riboflavin, iodine and zinc. Please note to ensure that your meal is prepared in a hygienic place to avoid eating contaminated food.

  • Burabisco: This is a healthy meal made from Couscous which helps boost the immune system and aids weight loss. Some people use garri instead of Couscous. It is made with sliced peppers, beef or chicken and usually yummy and super spicy.

  • Kunu: This is a yummy filling milky drink made out of millet or sorghum. That is best served cold. Kunu prevents dehydration, heart disease, diabetes, aids healthy digestion, ideal for nursing mothers and lowers cholesterol. Kunu, when mixed with dates, can be used as an aphrodisiac.
